Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone, dolomite, calcite, and serpentine are subjected to intense heat and pressure. Its main component is calcium carbonate, and it also contains acidic oxide. 

Marble is known for its elegance and aesthetic beauty, and it’s been used for centuries in buildings and home decor. However, marble can be susceptible to staining, scratching, and acid etching because calcite, its main component, is vulnerable to mild acids. Some say that these changes, known as “patina,” can actually enhance the stone’s beauty and historical significance.
