Quartzite is a natural, metamorphic stone that is formed when sandstone is subjected to intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth’s surface. This process results in a dense, hard, and strong stone that is made up of interlocking quartz grains. Quartzite is known for its durability, scratch resistance, and unique patterns and colors. It can be found in many colors, including white, gray, tan, red, orange, pink, green, blue, and purple, and can have veining similar to marble.  

Quartzite is a popular choice for homeowners and designers because it offers a sophisticated look with a crystalline sparkle. It’s also harder than granite and less susceptible to etching than marble. However, quartzite can be damaged by sharp objects, so it’s best to use a cutting board when preparing food. It’s also heat-resistant, but it’s a good idea to use potholders or trivets to protect the surface. To maintain its nonporous surface, quartzite should be resealed, similar to granite.  

Quartzite can be found on every continent of the world, usually in mountain ranges or in locations that once had mountain ranges. It tends to form prominent features, such as mountain ridges, but under the right conditions can even form caves
